"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."
— Acts 20:28
St. John's is a dynamic and welcoming Christian community that gives glory to God through worship, learning, service, and fellowship.
Our worship is centered in the Lutheran tradition — Scripture proclaimed, Baptism celebrated, and Holy Communion shared at an open table for all believers.
From our three-manual Allen pipe organ to our choir and congregational song, music is a living, vital thread woven through every service at St. John's.
A rich variety of faith formation experiences for children, youth, and adults — from Sunday School and confirmation to adult Bible study and beyond.
Our food pantry, PATH housing ministry, Rainbow Trail Child Care, and annual God's Work Our Hands day keep St. John's hands busy in Stroudsburg.
We build hospitality and invite all into fellowship and discipleship with God's Son through Bible study, prayer, and service — no exceptions.
St. John's cares for its own — visiting the sick, supporting families in grief, and celebrating life's milestones as one congregation family.
From our founding in 1866 to our newly installed pipe organ, St. John's is a church rich with history, art, and sacred spaces worth knowing.
The congregation was organized in December 1866 with twelve male members and dedicated on October 24, 1869 — the culmination of years of Lutheran mission in the Stroudsburg area. Over 150 years of growth, trial, and faithfulness follow. Read the full story in our church history document.

📸 View Photo AlbumThe unique pewter cross over the altar is the work of Stroudsburg craftsman Fred Potcher. Its design draws from an Egyptian slave bracelet, with symbols of chains and bondage representing the broken captivity of sin and death through Christ's sacrifice. A remarkable and deeply theological piece of sacred art.
📄 About the CrossSt. John's organ is a three-manual digital instrument built by Allen Organ Company in Macungie, PA, installed for Reformation Sunday 2021. The GX-350DK model features 58 speaking stops, six classical voicing styles, and a 16-channel audio system — a magnificent instrument anchoring our musical ministry.
📄 Organ SpecificationsSt. John's windows are among the most striking features of the sanctuary. The large front window — Christ Knocking at the Door — was purchased in memory of four young men lost in World War I. New opalescent windows were installed in 1923, giving the sanctuary its beloved luminous character.
