The People Behind the Penguin
Our Story
The Putting Penguin was an idea developed by Pat and Mandy in 2001. After playing a mini golf course in Connecticut and disagreeing with some of the course rules, they realized there were very few mini golf courses with an internet presence. Rather than keep their thoughts to themselves, they decided to create a platform to share their reviews and provide a forum for the public to contribute.
Putt, the Putting Penguin, is the mascot they adopted to pose in course photos, and is now the most recognizable figure on the team (often joined by other penguins over the years!).
Today, The Putting Penguin has grown from its humble roots as a review directory into a team of professional competitors. Our goal has expanded to promoting miniature golf as a legitimate sport through our website, social media, personal appearances, and our co-founding of the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA).
Pat Sheridan
A graduate of Boston University currently residing in Connecticut, Pat is a CPA by trade but spends his days as a brilliant business solutions designer when he isn't out on the turf. His impressive mini golf resume includes:
- Featured competitor on Season 1 of ABC's hit show Holey Moley.
- Multiple tournament wins, including the Farmington Miniature Golf Tournament, Looniest Mini Golf Open, and a spot on Team USA at the 2019 World Adventure Golf Masters.
- Tournament Director and co-organizer of the Matterhorn International Pro-Am.
- Co-Founder of the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA).
Mandy Ranslow
A graduate of Boston University and the University of Connecticut, also residing in CT. An archaeologist by day working with government transportation organizations, her mini golf resume is legendary:
- 15+ years of competitive miniature golf.
- 10+ years directing tournaments, including the Matterhorn International Pro-Am (a World Adventure Golf Tour stop).
- Co-Founder of the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA).
