My name is Dylan Koerner. I am a vocalist, choral conductor, and music educator based in Connecticut. I was born and raised in New Britain, CT and I attended New Britain High School. I graduated the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Music in Education with a focus in Choral/General Music Education and a principal in Voice. I graduated Cum Laude and with Disciplinary Honors.
As a vocalist, I am currently a tenor in CONCORA, Connecticut's Premiere Professional Chorus, directed by Chris Shepard. CONCORA sings a broad repertoire of works ranging from Bach Passions and Motets to modern compositions by Lauridsen and Whitacre. I am also a Tenor Section Leader of The Hartford Chorale, directed by Richard Coffey. The Hartford Chorale is the largest symphonic chorus between Boston and New York and has performed almost every large scale choral and orchestral work. Lastly, I am a tenor section leader at South Church in New Britain, CT under the direction of Music Minister Richard Coffey. I sing solos, help guide my fellow tenors, and direct the Chancel Choir in anthems and introits during service on occasion.
As a choral conductor, I have participated in many masterclasses with professors across the country. I worked with Dr. Jerry Blackstone, Dr. Eugene Rogers, and Dr. Julie Skadsem of the University of Michigan, Dr. William Weinert of the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Joesph Flummerfelt of Westminster Choir College, Dr. Ann Howard Jones, formerly at Boston University, and Dr. Craig Hella Johnson of Conspirare. While at UNC Greensboro, I studied conducting privately with Dr. Carole Ott. During that time I was able to conduct the University Chorale in concert, do an honors thesis on the influences of modern choral music while under the supervision of Dr. Welborn Young, attend graduate level conducting seminars, and participate in the 2013 ACDA Choral Conducting Competition.
As a music educator, I have taught a various schools throughout Connecticut. I have been an Elementary Music Teacher at Jefferson School in New Britain, CT where I taught K-5 general music and chorus, organizing multiple concerts throughout the school year. I was also a middle school music teacher at Carmen Arace Middle School in Bloomfield, CT where I taught general music classes consisting of music history, music technology lessons, and piano and guitar lessons. I also taught at Silas Deane Middle School in Wethersfield, CT as their music spectrum teacher. I taught lessons and created projects using GarageBand and iMovie and other apps, and taught guitar and piano. While at UNC Greensboro I interned at various schools throughout Guilford County and student taught at Western Rockingham Middle School under the supervision of Dr. Beverly Vaughn.
Outside of conducting, I am a multi-faceted musician. I still perform occasionally on my alto saxophone and my guitar, and sing solos at weddings and funerals. When I am not doing music, you can find me on a golf course, designing websites, or playing various video games.
